Welcome to Rome
- June 16, 2010
Rome, Georgia is located approximately 1 hour northwest of Atlanta in Floyd County. It is uniquely positioned in the foothills of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains on 7 hills: Blossom, Jackson, Lumpkin, Neely (also referred to as Clock Tower Hill), Shorter, Myrtle, and Mt. Aventine Hills and 3 rivers: the Coosa, Etowah, and Oostanaula Rivers. As with many other towns in Georgia, Rome is very rich in Cherokee Indian and Civil War history.
Berry College, a very picturesque campus spanning more than 26,000 acres and holding the record for the largest college campus in the world, is located in Rome. It is a private, 4 year liberal arts college founded by Martha Berry.
There are museums and art galleries to visit and plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy. If you like baseball, Rome is home to the Class A Rome Braves, a division of the Atlanta Braves. Come experience the area!
