See Rome Little Theater’s live play of Charlotte’s Web at the historic DeSoto Theater in Rome, Georgia opening on August 26, 2011. This show was adapted by Joseph Robinette from the book by E.B. White. It is being directed by Wayne Jones and Angela Jones.
The show will run August 26, 27, 28, and September 2, 3, 4. Show times are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM. Sunday matinees at 2:30 PM. Tickets purchased in advance are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. On the day of the show, tickets are $13 for adults, $11 for students and seniors. Gary Tillman Memorial Road Race
- August 10, 2011
Take part in the Gary Tillman Memorial Clocktower 5K Road Race and 2 mile Health Walk in Rome, Georgia on August 20, 2011 beginning at 8 AM. The race headquarters is at Heritage Park behind the Levee on 2nd Avenue. The race will be run through downtown Rome. Register on race day from 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM and all events are $25.
The 5K race will be chip timed and awards will be given for 1st place in Overall, Masters, and Grand Masters for male and female. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded for each age group.
Spend the afternoon enjoying the shops, restaurants, and the sidewalk sale being held after the race by the downtown merchants in downtown Rome. Head to Heritage Park at 6 PM for River Revelry and have some fun, food, and music. For more information, call 706-235-3035.
Proceeds from the race will benefit The Exchange Club Family Resource Center for the prevention of child abuse.

22nd Annual Running Water Powwow

Come on out to Ridge Ferry Park in Rome, Georgia on September 3 and 4, 2011 for the 22nd Annual Running Water Powwow – Cherokee Homecoming and Ripe Corn Festival.
Native American Indians gather from North, South and Central America to dance and sing to several drum groups and to compete with each other in the dance arena. Over 50 arts and crafts and food booths will be set up selling or demonstrating the crafts they make. Primitive skills will be demonstrated in Bow and Arrow making, Hide Tanning, Flute making, Corn Shuck Doll making, and a Teepee display. There will be Native American Storytelling by Fred Bradley and musical entertainment during the breaks by Dave “White Wolf”, Charlie Wayne and Vickie Hutto.
Competition and Exhibition Dancing with over 125 dancers dressed in full regalia.
The Grand Entry, the parade of all dancers into the arena to begin the dancing, will be at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Saturday and at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
Hours: Saturday, September 3rd from 10 AM to 10 PM. Sunday September 4th 10 AM to 6 PM.
Admission: $ 7 for adults, Children 12 & under and Seniors 65 & over are FREE.

2011 4th of July Celebration

Celebrate the 4th of July at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome, Georgia on July 4, 2011 with a day of fun and entertainment. There will be live music, food, plenty of entertainment for the children, and a “bang” of an ending with a spectacular fireworks show. The gates open at 6 PM. Some Like it Hot!

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to Bridgepoint Plaza in downtown Rome, Georgia on June 11, 2011 for “Some Like it Hot”, the first movie in the Summer Outdoor Movie Series. This movie is a comedy starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon.

Cave Spring Arts Festival

Visit Rolater Park in Cave Spring near Rome, Georgia on June 11 and 12, 2011 for the 36th annual Cave Spring Arts Festival. It will be a juried show with cash awards. Many artists will have their art work on display for you to enjoy and purchase. The weekend is sure to be a great one with music, food and lots of beautiful art.

Firefly Fling and More

May 7, 2011 is going to be an eventful day in Rome, Georgia. Enjoy taking a walk down Broad Street to see a wonderful variety of art work that will be on display from 10 AM to 5 PM as part of Art Walk.
Celebrate International Museum Day by visiting Oak Hill and Martha Berry Museum. Admission is FREE from 10 AM to 5 PM. See demonstrations on how to use a weaving loom and spinning wheel as well as the “Rich Tapestry” exhibit that shares the history of handicrafts at Berry College.
Learn about the Spirits of the Civil War from 1 PM to 2:30 PM at the Rome/Floyd County Visitor’s Center. Take a tour of downtown Rome on the Toonerville Trolley to learn about the major Civil War sites in the area. The tour is FREE but tickets are required. Call 706-295-5576 for tickets.
Finish the evening with the Firefly Fling: An Evening of Bluegrass and Barbecue at Oak Hill. Have a tasty meal of barbecue provided by the Harvest Moon Cafe as you listen to the great sounds of recording artists Larkin Poe. The show will begin at 7 PM. Tickets are $20 for this event.
