			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Rome Little Theater&#8217;s newest production is the play <em>The Glass Menagerie</em> going on <strong>April 20 &#8211; 29, 2012</strong>. This play is told as a memory of a son who is bored with the banality of everyday life and feels stifled by his mother and her obsession with finding a suitor for her disabled, shy daughter.</p>
<p>Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, matinee on Sundays at 2:30 PM. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors.</p>
<p>This play is sponsored by Biz to Biz Commerce and is presented by arrangement with Dramatist Play Service, Inc. on behalf of the University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Come on out and join in the 2012 Relay for Life in Floyd County on <strong>April 13, 2012</strong> at Ridge Ferry Park in Rome, Georgia. The event gets started with the Opening Ceremony at 6 PM, Survivor Lap at 6:15 PM, a Luminaria Ceremony at 10 PM and the Closing Ceremony at 6 AM. A Survivor Dinner will take place at 5 PM.</p>
<p>Most people in this world have been touched in one way or another by cancer and we can only hope that events like these will help to find ways to put an end to this dreaded disease. 		<description><![CDATA[Canter for Cancer with the Western Saddle Club in Rome, Georgia on April 13 - 15, 2012.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-230" title="Horse" src="http://www.downtownrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Horse-sm.jpg" alt="Horse" width="150" height="200" />The Western Saddle Club in Rome, Georgia is hosting Canter for Cancer on <strong>April 13 &#8211; 15, 2012</strong>. The fun begins on Friday, April 13 with $500 Added Money Running Show. Warm ups begin at 6 PM, Running starts at 8 PM. On Saturday, registration begins at 8 AM and a Trail Ride leaves at 10 AM. This weekend will be a lot of fun with games, raffles, awareness information, vendors, prizes and more.</p>
<p>Register on Saturday at the Western Saddle Club. The guided trail ride will depart at 10 AM for a beautiful ride around Berry College property and will return at 2 PM. Following the ride, you can visit all the vendors, enjoy a Parelli performance instructed by Ari Turner while eating the lunch that will be provided. At 4 PM, winners will be announced for all the great prizes that were graciously donated for this event. You must be present to win. There will be a balloon release at 4:20 PM and at 4:30 PM you may want to compete in a Trail Obstacle event for an extra $10 fee. Events end on Saturday evening but there will be campsites available for those who want to stay overnight. Campsites are limited and reservations are required. <p>Admission for Saturday day riders is $50 per person or stay the weekend for $75 per person and this includes lunch with Ari Turner. All proceeds from this event will go to benefit Cancer Navigators of Rome.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Bring your own dinner and beverages to the Georgia Northwestern Technical College on <strong>February 4, 2012</strong> as the Friends of  Theatre present a musical cabaret, &#8220;The Next Best Thing to Broadway&#8221;. This event will showcase this year&#8217;s amazing talent of musical theater students as they perform select pieces.</p>
<p>Make sure you bring some decorations for your table as the tables will be judged and awarded prizes for Best Table Decorations.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Test your spelling skills at the Shane Richardson Memorial Adult Spelling Bee to benefit Harbor House in Rome, Georgia.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Test your spelling skills at the Shane Richardson Memorial Adult Spelling Bee to benefit Harbor House on <strong>February 2, 2012</strong> from 6 PM to 8 PM. Teams of 3 members each, ages 21 and older, will compete with other teams. The teams will be able to consult using pencil and paper before each spelling. Each team will be allowed 1 free stinger (respell). Additional stingers may be purchased prior to the start of the spelling bee for $50 each.</p>
<p>Registration for each team will be $250.  Applications must be submitted by January 30, 2012.  The spelling bee will be held at the Spruill Ballroom at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. Trophies will be awarded for the Best Team Name and People&#8217;s Choice.  All proceeds from this event will go to benefit Harbor House &#8211; The Northwest Georgia Child Advocacy Center. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Theta Omicron Omega will host their first annual Pancake Breakfast at Applebee&#8217;s Neighborhood Grill &amp; Bar in Rome, Georgia on Saturday, <strong>December 3, 2011</strong> from 8 am until 10 am.</p>
<p>Tickets for the event are $7.00. Proceeds from the Pancake Breakfast will go directly towards EAF and all deserving applicants.</p>
<p>The Theta Omicron Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated has serviced Floyd, Polk, Carroll and Bartow Counties for decades through scholarship and service to all mankind.</p>
<p>The Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation (EAF) was founded in 1980 with a mission to constantly promote lifelong learning through charitable donations, scholarships and grants.</p>

It is fascinating to see the changes from one period of time to another. A display of toys from different periods will also be on display for your enjoyment.</p>
<p>This exhibit will be on display from December 2, 2011 through January 14, 2012. The museum hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays 10 AM to 5 PM. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, and $2 for students. For more information, call 706-291-9494.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Visit Ridge Ferry Park in Rome, Georgia for the 47th annual Chiaha Harvest Fair on <strong>October 22 and 23, 2011</strong>. Over 120 artists will be there with many craft demonstrations being held throughout the weekend. Enjoy the continuous live entertainment while you are nibbling on some of the tasty Southern cooking and sipping some hot apple cider. Bring the kids for some fun art activities. Go to chiaha.org to get coloring sheets for your children to color. Bring them along to the festival for free admission for your children.</p>
<p>The festival will be open from 10 AM to 5 PM both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and seniors, $1 for children under 12.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Join in the 2011 John Wisdom Wagon Train/Trail Ride on October 15, 2011 in Rome, Georgia.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Rome, Georgia is celebrating the Civil War hero John Wisdom on <strong>October 15, 2011</strong> with the 32nd annual John Wisdom Wagon Train/Trail Ride. The ride begins at Coosa Valley Fairgrounds at 8:30 AM and will make a 23 mile travel to Shannon, Georgia.</p>
<p>In 1863, mail carrier John Wisdom rode many hours from Gadsden, Alabama to Rome to warn them of an impending attack by Union troops during the Civil War. Thanks to his efforts, Rome&#8217;s militia gathered together to reinforce the town from attack and soon, unbeknownst to John,  confederate soldiers, led by Nathan Bedford Forrest, came and captured the Union troops. This ride is to commemorate his heroic act.</p>
<p>Tickets are available at the main entrance. $10 for adults, $5 for students under 12. Coggins papers must be shown in order to participate.</p>
<p>A Cowboy Dance featuring the Backwater Band will be held at 8 PM at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds. Tickets for the dance are $5.</p>
<p>Camping will be allowed at the fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday night. The camp sites open at 12 noon on Friday. For more information, call 706-295-5576.</p>
