The Next Best Thing to Broadway

Bring your own dinner and beverages to the Georgia Northwestern Technical College on February 4, 2012 as the Friends of  Theatre present a musical cabaret, “The Next Best Thing to Broadway”. This event will showcase this year’s amazing talent of musical theater students as they perform select pieces.

Make sure you bring some decorations for your table as the tables will be judged and awarded prizes for Best Table Decorations.

The doors open at 6:30 PM and the show will begin at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $25 per person. Call 706-291-8267 for more information and to get your tickets. All proceeds for the evening will go to benefit the Scholarship Fund for the theater department students.

Jazz in Rome

Get ready for a night of  hot jazz at the City Club in Rome, Georgia on March 18, 2011. Studio 712 Jazz presents “Jazz Madness” featuring The ATC Quartet (formerly known as the Marc Johnson Quartet) along with soulful singer Keysha. The event beings at 7 PM and performers will be on stage from 8:30 PM to 12 Midnight. Appetizers and a cash bar of beer and wine will be available.

Tickets are $10 per person. Attire is casual.

1st Annual Benefit Gospel Show

The Gospel Singing Caravan featuring The Le Fevre Quartet, The Chuck Wagon Gang, The Blackwood Brothers with The Nelons along with special guests Indoor Flood will all be part of the 1st annual Benefit Gospel Show presented By Amanda Corbin Allstate Agency. The show will be held at the Rome City Auditorium on March 18, 2011 at 7 PM.  ALL PROCEEDS BENEFIT THE SOW HOMELESS SHELTER FOR FAMILIES.

SOW Family Homeless Shelter located at 404 S. Broad Street in Rome is the only shelter in our area that accepts children. The shelter is currently housing 6 (six) families. If all tickets to this show are sold, we can feed the families for over a year. The shelter is 100% volunteer and is funded by private donations and fund raisers only. We do use any government funding.

Heart and Soul 4

The Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble along with guests Soul Revue will be performing Heart and Soul 4: Love Songs and Motown on February 11, 2011 at 7:30 PM. The show will be performed at the Rome City Auditorium. Tickets are just $5. For more information call 706-233-7285.

The Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble has been active since 1988 and is a professional big band comprised mostly of local band directors. They are part of R.O.M.E. – Rome’s Own Musical Ensembles, a non profit organization whose mission is to bring high quality, affordable, family oriented musical programs to Rome.

The Ballad of Baby Doe

Shorter University-School of Fine and Performing Arts is performing a winter opera The Ballad of Baby Doe at the historic DeSoto Theater in Rome, Georgia on January 21 – 22, 2011.

This American opera was written by Douglas Moore and tells the true story of the life of Elizabeth “Baby Doe” Tabor and her marriage to a rich silver entrepreneur. It touches on her greatest joys and deepest sorrows throughout many decades of her life. The opera will be performed with a full orchestra and combines the many talents of the Shorter University students and faculty.

Montgomery Gentry in Concert

Don’t miss the award winning Country Music duo Montgomery Gentry in concert on October 23, 2010 at 4 PM. The concert will be held at the State Mutual Stadium. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through Ticketmaster. Ticket prices range from $35 to $50.

Montgomery Gentry has been on the country music scene for over 10 years and have won CMA and ACM awards, have albums that have gone gold and platinum, and had several chart topping hits including songs like “Hell Yeah”, “My Town”, and “Lucky Man” just to name a few. They are a couple of geniune guys who really relate to their fan base. Not only are they great musicians but are real humanitarians who are willing to give alot of their time to help charitable organizations.

Ain’t Misbehavin’

The next event on the R.O.M.E. – Rome’s Own Musical Ensembles schedule is Broadway on Broad Street – Ain’t Misbehavin’ on October 8 and 9, 2010 at 7:30 PM. It is a revue of the music of Fats Waller and will be performed by the North West Georgia Winds. The event will be held at the Rome City Auditorium.
