April Events at Shorter University

The School of Fine and Performing Arts at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia has many events planned for April, 2011. There will be plays, recitals and concerts. Below is a list of events. All shows are free unless otherwise stated. If the show requires tickets, you can get them at the Shorter University Box Office. April 8 at 3:10 PM - Senior Recital – Rebecca West on piano, Hannah Freeman, soprano in Brookes Chapel.

April 8 at 7:30 PM – Band Concert in Brookes Chapel. Tickets are required.

April 9 at 7:30 PM – Shorter University Chorus Spring Concert in Brookes Chapel. Tickets are required.

April 11 at 7:30 PM – Senior Recital – Evan Meisser, baritone in Brookes Chapel.

April 12 – 17 at 7:30 PM – Spring Musical – You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown in the Callaway Theatre. Tickets are required.

April 15 at 3:10 PM – Junior Recital – Mary Diesch, soprano, E.J. Laird, baritone, and Ryan O’Leary, tenor in Brookes Chapel.

April 16 at 7:30 PM – Shorter Chorale Spring Concert at the First Baptist Church in Rome, Georgia. Tickets are required.

April 18 at 7:30 PM – Senior Recital – Jasmine Habersham, soprano in Brookes Chapel.

April 19 – 21 at 7:30 PM – Dark Night Series in the Callaway Theatre. This is a series of new plays being read in recital format. The audience will get a chance to hear these plays before they come out. Tickets are required.

April 25 at 7:30 PM – Senior Recital – Michelle Kelly, soprano in Brookes Chapel.

April 28 at 7:30 PM – Senior Showcase – Emily Duke, Jennifer Holcombe and Chris Lewis in the Callaway Theatre.

April 29 at 7:30 PM – Senior Show – Hannah Brown in the Callaway Theatre.

April 30 at 7:30 PM – Senior Showcase – Vandi Enzor and John Carucci in the Callaway Theatre.

The Art of Michael McGill

Visit the Imagine Hair Art Studio and Gallery Lounge in Rome, Georgia on March 5, 2011 from 7 PM to 9 PM for the opening of  Michael McGill’s Jolly Oink art exhibit. The art exhibit will be on display through March 26, 2011. His whimsical drawings and paintings are unlike any others and touch on his many interests in life, from wine and music to history and politics. He is an accomplished musician, singer, and songwriter who has always had a passion for art. After breaking his elbow in late 2005 and being sidelined from his music, he became an artist and character consultant for a new educational program for children. He began painting and having gallery showings around Atlanta in the summer of 2006.

Homage Art Exhibit

A guest art exhibit “Homage” will be on display in the Arnold Art Gallery at Shorter University in Rome, Georgia through March 1, 2011. The guest artist is Amalia Amaki and she is a nationally known photo based mixed media artist whose works can be seen in collections at the High Museum and the National Museum for Women in the Arts. She is a professor of art history at the University of Alabama and is a graduate of Georgia State University, The University of New Mexico, and Emory University.

A reception and lecture will be held on March 1, 2011 at 2:30 PM.
