The Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble along with guests Soul Revue will be performing Heart and Soul 4: Love Songs and Motown on February 11, 2011 at 7:30 PM. The show will be performed at the Rome City Auditorium. Tickets are just $5. For more information call 706-233-7285.
The Clock Tower Jazz Ensemble has been active since 1988 and is a professional big band comprised mostly of local band directors. They are part of R.O.M.E. – Rome’s Own Musical Ensembles, a non profit organization whose mission is to bring high quality, affordable, family oriented musical programs to Rome.

Civil War Symposium

2011 begins Rome’s Convention and Visitor’s Bureau 5 year commemoration to Rome’s Civil War heritage during the 150th anniversary of the War Between the States. The first event on the schedule is on January 27, 2011 at 6:30 PM in the Coosa Room at the Floyd County Public Library.
Dan Roper, a respected local author and historian, will present the first Civil War Symposium. He is the publisher and editor of Georgia Backroads and has published over 80 articles on Georgia history and travel. This event is Free. Polar Bear Paddle

If floating down the Etowah River in the middle of winter floats your boat then join CRBI (Coosa River Basin Initiative), the city of Rome, and Keep Rome Beautiful for the Polar Bear Paddle, a 6 mile trip down the Etowah River on January 15, 2011. You put your boat in at Grizzard Park and end at Heritage Park in downtown Rome. Complimentary canoes and kayaks are available from CRBI. Pre-registration is required. The Ballad of Baby Doe

Shorter University-School of Fine and Performing Arts is performing a winter opera The Ballad of Baby Doe at the historic DeSoto Theater in Rome, Georgia on January 21 – 22, 2011.
This American opera was written by Douglas Moore and tells the true story of the life of Elizabeth “Baby Doe” Tabor and her marriage to a rich silver entrepreneur. It touches on her greatest joys and deepest sorrows throughout many decades of her life. The opera will be performed with a full orchestra and combines the many talents of the Shorter University students and faculty.
